We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing labor day weekend! Ours was filled with football, a trip to Las Vegas, time with sweet friends, and the exciting news of a new engagement! On Saturday, I (Mallory) got engaged to my wonderful boyfriend (now fiance- whoa still weird to say!). We are thrilled about this new chapter in our lives. Let the wedding planning begin!
Our Engagement Story
First off I must say that I had no idea this was coming. I knew it was coming this fall probably around late September – mid October, so I wasn’t thinking or expecting it would happen this weekend. Chris can be pretty sneaky when it comes to surprises and throwing me off. We had talked for a while about having a “staycation” in Atlanta over the summer and playing tourist, so when Chris suggested Labor Day weekend I didn’t think anything of it. Friday night kicked off our staycation with dinner at UMI. If you haven’t been to UMI, GO! It’s amazing. We ate way too much tuna tartare, lobster tempura rolls and avocado salad.
Saturday morning started with breakfast at Einstein’s in Midtown which is our go-to breakfast/brunch place in Atlanta. After breakfast, Chris told me that he wanted us to go to Topgolf in Alpharetta and go to Piedmont Park. So since we were in Midtown, I suggested we go to the park now – apparently that was not part of his plan and that was shot down quickly. Me being me, I was annoyed that we were wasting gas going from Midtown to Alpharetta back to Midtown – sorry Chris!
After sweating and playing at Topgolf, we headed back down to Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park is very special to us and our relationship. It is where he asked me to be exclusive, and it is our favorite spot in the city. We arrived back at the park and began walking around the pond. We ended up walking to the same spot where there is a bench we normally sit at overlooking the pond and looking at the Midtown skyrise.
At this point, I don’t remember much of what happened – again, sorry Chris! I remember he started say something along the lines of “this is where it all began, etc.” and he got down on one knee. At this point I am in complete shock, so I am gasping and walking backwards (oops!). Once I could speak and do more than nod my head yes, I said yes to my best friend!
His proposal was perfect, and I couldn’t ask for a better best friend and man of God! After calling our parents and texting our friends, we headed home to relax for a few hours before dinner. Chris had told me earlier that week that he had made reservations at Pricci for dinner that night. He said it was just us two since we already we’re planning on seeing my parents for lunch the next day. I normally would have argued to go see everyone, but I think I was still in shock! We arrived at Pricci and I was surprised to be greeted by my parents, my little sister, my uncle and Chris’s parents who had flown in from Texas! It was a wonderful surprise, and we had a blast telling our story and celebrating with our families. The staff at Pricci could not have been sweeter showering us with champagne, desserts and congratulations. Their staff made the night even better!
Thank you to everyone for the kind words and congratulations! We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone soon. Next up, Emily’s wedding THIS WEEKEND!!!
